Model-book note — educational only. The Ghost is a hypothetical model portfolio used to explain Tanzanian market structure, allocation reasoning and risk — not investment advice, a recommendation, or a live client portfolio. Holdings are illustrative; prices and liquidity may be stale or thin. Figures reconcile to their sources as at the date shown on each mark.

Equities

DSE-listed shares — the growth engine of the book. Cheap quality, sized by conviction, never confused for a sure thing.

The lay of the land

Why equities carry the book

Under the mandate, equities are the growth engine — the sleeve allowed the widest band, 30 to 60 percent, because this is where return is made when the thesis is right. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange is small and concentrated, so a handful of names carry most of the weight: the banks, the telco, the consumer staples, the cement maker. The Ghost does not try to own the index. It owns a reasoned subset and explains every change.

The approach is plain: buy quality cheaper than it deserves, size to conviction rather than to comfort, and let the holdings table and the performance bridge show exactly what each name is contributing. A strong chart is never mistaken for a strong thesis.

Banks

The engine

NMB and CRDB anchor the sleeve — the deepest, most liquid earners on the board, and the book's largest contributors to date.

Telco & consumer

The cashflow

Vodacom and Tanzania Cigarette — defensive earnings that hold the line when the cycle turns and the banks wobble.

Industrials

The cycle

Twiga Cement reads the building cycle — useful as a tell on domestic demand, sized smaller because it swings harder.

Not the whole exchange — only what the book holds. The sleeve is rebased to 100 on 6 June 2026 and marked to each trading day's DSE close, so the line is the book's own equity return, not the index.
